Survio allows you to create detailed surveys by applying logical rules that guide respondents based on their answers. While logical rules are best used with single-choice questions, you can create a star-rating system by using star emojis. Here’s how to set up an effective survey with star rankings and logic.

Before you start, we recommend that you take a look at our articles explaining single choice questions and how the survey logic works.

Setting up surveys with star-ranking and logic

Survey structure example:

1. Question #1: rating an aspect of your offer

  • Question type: single-choice with star emojis

  • Example: "How would you rate the quality of our wellness services?"

  • Options: 1-5 stars.

  • Logical rules:

    • If 1-3 stars are selected, respondents proceed to question 2 (no additional logic needed).

    • If 4-5 stars are selected, respondents are redirected to question 3.

Tip: To insert star emojis (⭐), copy and paste them from websites like emojipedia.org.

2. Question #2: improvement suggestions

  • Question type: open-ended question

  • Example: "What improvements would you suggest?"

  • Logical rule: no logical rule needed.

3. Question #3: rating another aspect of your offer

  • Question type: single-choice with star emojis

  • Example: "How would you rate our customer service?"

  • Options: 1-5 stars.

  • Logical rules:

    • If 1-3 stars are selected, respondents proceed to question 4.

    • If 4-5 stars are selected, respondents are redirected to question 5.

4. Question #4: further improvement suggestions

  • Question type: open-ended question

  • Example: "Do you have specific suggestions for improving our customer service?"

  • Logical rule: no logical rule needed.

Benefits of this approach

  • Targeted feedback: Use star emojis in single-choice questions to gather detailed ratings, while logical rules tailor follow-up questions based on responses.

  • Streamlined surveys: Logical rules direct respondents to the most relevant questions, reducing survey fatigue.

  • Focused insights: Collect more actionable feedback by guiding respondents to provide specific suggestions for improvement based on their ratings.
